Exploring layers in terms of material, personal and public history has been evident in Jet Pascua’s body of work. He uses historical events as references and material in imagining a different reality, or making sense of the present one.
For his exhibition at the gallery 3 of West Gallery, Jet Pascua is installing his new work, “ALIKABOK” (DUST). The work addresses the murder of the Filipino revolutionary leader Andres Bonifacio, who was believed the have been betrayed and hacked to his death by soldiers loyal to the would-be first Philippine president.
In this work, Jet Pascua re-lives the trauma by hacking the wooden plyboard repetitively until the image of Andres Bonifacio is made.
